Installation on view at Rizq Art Initiative as part of Scene/Seen – ‘Fragile Birth of Fire’ exhibition until April 14.
Dedicated to the universally existential day that determines if anybody in the world actually cares about us. And so I wonder, how is a day dedicated to celebrating our birth and life possibly the heaviest day of the year?

Painting installation selected for Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival 2025 – On View until March 31st.
Comparing the folds and flows of a blanket to desert sand dunes, this work compares the perceptions of the desert in the east vs the west, and how these two seemingly ordinary objects – a blanket and desert sand dunes – similarly bring us comfort and escapism.
I’m Melika, a multidisciplinary artist raised in Dubai.
Over the years, I’ve worked across many forms such as drawing, painting, sculpture, animation, film, photography, and even metalsmithing, but I’ve found myself returning to the quiet intimacy of painting and photography. My current work explores moments of connection, often through flowing forms: soft blankets, folds of fabric, drips of paint, or the movement found in poetry and dance. I’m drawn to the spaces in between, those fragile, often overlooked moments of transition that shape who we become. What makes us feel like we belong or not? How do fleeting encounters or subtle shifts in our surroundings impact our sense of self and place?
Through my work, I hope to evoke stillness, reflection, and feeling. I hope it invites you to pause, to notice the beauty in the everyday, and to reconnect, whether with yourself, with others, with your surroundings, and with the unseen threads that tie us all together.
